House sends bill that would allow return of child support payments to committee
By Associated Press
10:24 AM CDT, May 7, 2009
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — After an extended debate on the effects of a bill that could allow a person who is found not to be the father of a child to recoup child support payments, the House sent the bill back to the judiciary committee. The measure sponsored by Rep. Stacey Campfield, a Knoxville Republican, would allow a person found not to be the father of a child, or children, to recover all child support payments from the actual biological father.Rep. Sherry Jones, a Nashville Democrat, said the proposal is "terrible for children" because they will be torn from men they believe to have been their fathers. (This is an asinine statement, it only means the non-father will not be legally responsible for making payments to the mother where the child is not his. Ask the mother who she slept with and attach his wages. The non-father can still visit the child. The biological father still have to pay child support despite if the mother gets married again. The senerio doesn't change.)The companion bill is scheduled to be heard by the Senate Judiciary Committee next Tuesday.___Read HB0806 at: http://www.capitol.tn.gov
